OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE (Containers)

Our client, a global supply chain solutions company with over 150 years of experience in commodity trading are currently seeking an experience Operations Associate to join the busy and expanding desk.
This organisation buys, sells, moves and de-risks commodities through a range of services including trade finance, commodities trading, analysis, freight, logistics and price risk management.

 

Purpose of the role

 

To carry out post trade contract activities from planning shipments, payment collection, and container demurrage.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Managing the day-to-day execution of the contracts concluded by Front Desk.
  • Preparation & maintenance of shipment files in electronic.
  • Instructing / Appointing cargo surveyors at loading and discharging port(s).
  • Issuing documentary instructions for timely preparation of shipping documents.
  • To ensure that effective and accurate shipping documentation is in place.
  • Issuance of invoices & chasing of payments from clients.
  • Managing the payment of suppliers, freight invoices and any other costs.
  • Undertaking of any other ad-hoc duties.
  • To take responsibility for your performance and to work together to achieve our organizational goals.
  • To attend training courses which are identified as being necessary for the performance of the role.
  • To comply with any reasonable instruction issued the Manager.
  • Covering colleagues when they are absent from office.

 

Requirements – Knowledge & Experience

 

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration or related discipline.
  • Experience and familiarity with all aspects of shipping documentation and knowledge of UCP 600 rules.
  • Experience in Containers essential
  • Experience in letter of Credit negotiation and UCP rules.
  • Experience in import / export through international seaports and use of shipping terms / Incoterms 2020.
  • Experience of working in an international commercial business with sound knowledge of contract
  • Letter of Credit negotiation.
  • Basic accounting knowledge to include quotation and invoice experience.
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Strong I.T. skills including proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Excellent analytical, organisation and time management skills
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
  • Self-starter with the ability to use initiative for problem solving.
  • Resourceful, innovative, and proactive
  • Personable with the ability to build relationships and communicate with all levels both internally and externally.

 

Desirable:

  • Ability to speak a second language.
  • Working knowledge of Bulk, Break bulk shipping, truck railcars and warehousing.
  • Experience in RSA / SAOL / Sugar No. 11 rules and regulations.
