Overview

Our client, a Global Commodity Trading Company, currently seek a graduate to cover a 1-year Maternity cover contract, the role reports to the London Operations Manager.

This position operates in the Precious Metals & Recycling Services, a global business unit within the Catalysts division, which is headquartered in the United States.
This position operates within a highly complex, multiple product (including precious metals) and operations environment.
Organizational relationships are complex as this business operates on a global level comprising of all regions and includes joint venture partners.

 

Outline of the Role

The Trade Operations Coordinator works within the team supporting Front office & Back office. Acting as an escalation point for commodity transaction related queries. Researching and resolving trade discrepancies by interacting with Brokers, Banks, counterparties, and internal teams. Managing the trade life cycle in the Trinity trading platform and metal commitment, mitigating risk, and adhering to operational controls. Liaising with Finance and Trading teams, assisting with Audit requirements, understand value added tax (VAT) implications for the UK, Italy & RSA. Gain an understanding of administration of supply contracts and support Global supply chain.

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in a trading back office or fast-paced financial services environment preferred.
  • Basic general understanding of trading operations e.g., hedging, futures, and spot trading.
  • Good numerical and analytical skills combined with attention to detail.
  • Independent thinking and strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of applications – particularly Excel and Outlook

Principal Responsibilities

Processing of Trades

  • Verify all trade entry booked by trading desk into Trinity trading platform and ensure accuracy of same. Responsible for ensuring any discrepancies are corrected.
  • Booking Average pricing contracts into Trinity Trading system, reporting the daily metal pricing position to Trading desk.
  • Ensure that all trade confirmations are received from/sent to counterparties within the prescribed timeframe. Contacting Counterparties on non-receipt of confirmations.
  • Ensure all trade life cycle events through the system have been completed, managing any system roadblocks.
  • Investigate and resolve all queries from customers, cross functions (Trading, commercial & controlling) and the global teams.
  • Support commercial team transactions & counterparty needs.
  • Ensure metal trading closing positions are agreed with Trading team daily. Investigate & resolve any differences.

 

Metal Movements / Shipping and Reconciliation

  • Clear London and Zurich daily commitments within designated cut off time.
  • Reconcile closing metal positions with financial institutions.
  • Monitor forward metal commitment positions escalate to Trading where metal would need to be covered.
  • Record internal / external metal movements accurately and timely on metal pool accounts.
  • Reconcile all stock positions and clear discrepancies.
  • Co-Ordinate physical shipments in a timely fashion, log deliveries and provide data for REACH reporting.
  • Ensure daily stock positions are accurate and communicate inconsistencies to trading team immediately.

 

Monitoring of Contracts

  • Comply with contractual obligations regarding pricing, delivery, payment, etc.
  • Prepare management summaries.
  • Identify, report and deal with discrepancies.

 

Supply Chain

  • Be aware of supply chain requirements for CC divisions.
  • Be aware of changes required by Refining Division, monitor OSR metal outturn in relation.

 

Compliance

  • Ensure that a robust system of internal controls exists to satisfy internal, year-end, Financial Reporting Compliance (FRC) audits. Ensure that Company guidelines are properly implemented, responsible for providing required examples and evidence to audit teams.
  • Enhance, write, and implement procedures and best practices.

 

Additional responsibilities

  • Support business with analysis and projects where required.
